I love a New Year getaway, it’s the perfect way to beat the January blues. A few of the school Mums suggested a weekend away last November, but everyone was too busy so we changed to the New Year. We booked the second weekend of January which was perfect timing and something to look forward to after the chaos of Christmas. We have over 30 little ones under the age of 8 between us.

The first thing we needed to do was to find a place to stay. I have followed Kate and Tom’s for some time on Instagram and knew they accommodated large groups (there was 16 of us) with a huge offering in luxury houses. We didn’t want to travel too far so limited our search to properties within an hour and a half from Cardiff.

In the end, The Cotswolds was a clear winner and we chose this stunning restored hunting lodge which is now a beautiful holiday let called Orchard Farmhouse. Its setting is what blew us away as there are two-and-a-half acres of countryside and the most incredible views from the house.

We arrived early evening on the Friday straight from the school run and we had a very relaxing evening playing games, having a few drinks and eating pizza.

And some of the Mums had made us all a goody bag in secret which included all of the essentials for a Mama’s getaway, chocolate, headache tablets, face masks and a homemade bath bomb! The quote is really beautiful and sums up what the weekend was all about.

“As it turns out one of the most wonderful joys of motherhood is the other mothers.” Anna Jordon

The next day after a much needed lie-in we explored the house, there are 7 bedrooms which are all beautifully styled with blankets and cushions galore, a cosy fireplace, a huge oak dining table and a hot tub outside which we used a lot!

I loved the geometric and rustic fabric on this armchair.
Roll top bath of dreams and stripped back wooden floors
The original stone floors were a thing of beauty

There were incredible views of the countryside from various windows in the house.

We had pre-booked two beauty therapists through Kate and Tom’s and I had a 30 minute facial in my pyjamas! It was such a treat and felt so luxurious compared to my usual Saturday of swimming lessons x3 and pick ups and drop offs for afternoon activities.

It took a few hours for all 16 of us to have our treatments and once we were done, we headed into the local village to explore. It’s a very picturesque part of the UK.

We spotted a gorgeous cafe and headed in for a cuppa & a cream tea.

It was such a cosy house that after a couple of hours out, we were keen to head back and were very excited as we had booked a private chef to cook us all a 3 course meal! This is the first time I have been away and used a service like this and it has to be the highlight of the trip. We didn’t know until Chef Wayne Sullivan arrived that he was a past Masterchef Professionals Semi-Finalist from the 2016 series! Again, we booked this service through Kate and Tom’s and we had pre-booked our food. I had soup soup for starters, steak for main and sticky pudding for dessert. The food was outstanding and I would definitely recommend booking this.

Steak or fish?! I wish I could have had both.
My favourite – Sticky toffee pudding!

We had another slow start on Sunday with a lie in and some hot tub action and a few of us explored the house and found some beautiful nooks and crannies as well as outbuildings.

If you like properties full or character and charm, this is the place for you.
Stunning oak-beamed ceilings and walls throughout

We left just before lunch and headed to a local pub on our way home which we had pre-booked for a Sunday carvery, you know that’s my death row meal & it was a good one!

This was my first trip away with the school Mums and I think it’s such a great idea, given how little time you have on the school runs to get to know each other.  I hope it becomes an annual tradition! And I have my eye on a few other Kate and Tom’s properties with incredible interiors, here is an edit of 3 of my favourites:

1) Roseyard

Polished concrete floor of dreams and vaulted ceilings! It’s a modern rustic lovers dream house.

2) Captain’s House

This is simply stunning, what a cosy and inviting interior.

3) The Slate Beach House

A very stylish house with views over a beautiful beach in Cornwall which is one of my favourite places in the UK.

If you would like to book one of Kate and Tom’s places, and you mention Hygge for Home, the £60 booking fee will be waived 🙂 Let me know if you do, would love to see what house you choose!

  1. Such a nice well-thought out, comprehensive post! Thanks! I definitely relate to that feeling you get when you want to change things around. I’m currently working on getting rid of everything that isn’t useful or isn’t beautiful in my home. Regards from smart glass companies in US ?
